ASIA: The mind of Junious (A Parable)

FOR PUBLICATION AHRC-ART-011-2023August 29, 2023 An Article by the Asian Human Rights Commission ASIA: The mind of Junious (A Parable) This story is about Junious. Please do not think that I made a mistake in naming the hero and misspelling Junious for genius. I quite understand some people's misunderstanding of that sort because an impression has been created and kept for a long time that Junious was in fact the genius. That is far from the truth. REMEMBERING THE RABAA MASSACRE

REMEMBERING THE RABAA MASSACRE

Seven years ago, on 14 August 2013, the Egyptian army stormed a sit-in at Cairo's Rabaa square and slaughtered more than 1,000 people who were protesting against the removal of the country's first democratically elected President, Mohamed Morsi. Members of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Egyptian opposition had been demonstrating outside the Rabaa Al-Adawiya Mosque in Cairo for 47 days when security forces attacked at around 6am on 14 August 2013. Security forces shot indiscriminately into the crowd, set fire to the tents people had gathered in and threw tear gas into the masses. People were shot, burnt alive and…

In a time when political dissent was brutally suppressed by means of violence and murder, and freedom of expression meant nothing else than ones own death- speaking truth to power, was not merely a brave act, rather a clear manifestation of intellectual honesty and a historic political commitment which many intellectuals lacked at the time.   He was…

“Che” Guevara: Symbol of Revolution

“Che” Guevara: Symbol of Revolution

By Juan Bonatto On October 8, 1967, Ernesto “Che” Guevara was wounded in combat and arrested. The next day, he was shot dead, photographed and displayed as a trophy by members of the Bolivian army and the CIA, before being buried in a mass grave With this act, they intended to make much more than a body disappear, but they failed. May Day 2023: Ceylon Mercantile, Industrial and General Workers’ Union

There has been a massive increase in the cost of living, while our real wages have declined alarmingly. Further, the full weight of the brutal, IMF-imposed austerity measures has fallen…

SRI LANKA: Best of Laws and the Worst of Law Enforcement – The IMF and the IGP

March 24, 2023 A Statement by the Asian Human Rights Commission SRI LANKA: Best of Laws and the Worst of Law Enforcement - The IMF and the IGP The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Extended Fund Facility has approved a fund to assist Sri Lanka at this time of terrible economic crisis.
